Our Dream Kitchen Realized!

Dear readers,

I thought I would end your week by inviting you to take a look-see inside our beautiful new kitchen. But before you do, I must first humbly acknowledge that a project of this caliber—nearly a year in the making and many, many hard-earned dollars spent—does, indeed, take a village. B and I extend our most heartfelt gratitude to each and every member of our talented design/construction team and family for helping us realize this longstanding dream. We are giddy with happiness!

They are:

Jay McEwan, master builder, for his willingness to work within out budget and, most important, for his incredible work ethic, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
• Our dear friends Jen and Stu at Ways 2 Design and Narofsky Architecture, respectively, for their generosity, amazing spatial and design acumen, and, above all, sense of humor through it all. We are in awe of your talents!
• My mother, Barbara, for her generous contribution of a gorgeous new refrigerator and oven hood.
• Tony Moschini of Moschini Productions for thinking of us when he found himself in possession of a brand-new oven he “didn’t need.”
• Aaron Rezny of Aaron Rezny Photography for his donation of a gently used dishwasher, as well as his experienced advice on the renovation process.
• To our neighbors, for their patience with the noise and construction mess.
• And, finally, to our circle of patient friends for listening to our ramblings about tile, counter tops, grout, hardware, paint colors, light fixtures, and appliance choices for more than a year now. You are the best.

And now, drum roll please….

This is how our little kitchen looked before, circa 1934:

And this, THIS, is our beautiful new kitchen now:

That’s what I’m talking about! xo

Wow! The photos turned out great and if it were me……I’d submit it to the Nate Berkus Show for their “House Proud” segment. I know how beautiful it turned out, but these pictures definitely give the rest of the world a good idea as well.
    XO

  2. Alisa says:

Unbelievable. Unrecognizable from what it was. Just so beautiful! Love Love LOVE!

  3. Hadiza Dockeray says:

LOVE IT! So wonderfully opened up and stylish. I can picture a few cooks working all at once with ease. But for me the absolutely greatest part is the new windows and ceiling re-design. Looks like a skylight, yes? Bravo, everyone!

  4. joanne bloom says:

Looks like it is right out of a magazine! No wonder you want to head there every chance you get. I would learn to finally cook if I had a kitchen like that! xoxo

  5. Touch2Touch says:

    Dynamite!
    Congratulations, and happy pot-and-panning —

  6. veggivet says:

Speaking from personal experience, you certainly picked the right guy in Jay! Beautifully done!

    • Smallpeace says:

Thank you, Veggivet! Jay is certainly a keeper. Now, someone please get the man a website, so he can post a portfolio of all his terrific projects. Though selfishly, I don’t want him to get so busy that he can’t continue to work for us (small potatoes).

  7. Love the red bench which echos the red barn (?) out the kitchen window. I can imagine some fabulous meals prepared from here – wishing you many happy days and evenings in your new kitchen!!

    • Smallpeace says:

Thank so much, Jayne. We will enjoy every moment. As for our red bench, it’s from IKEA! We searched forever for something more rustic industrial, but this was just too good a deal and fit to pass up. Cheers.

  8. David says:

Nice work you guys! And you stayed married! Seriously, your hard work and patience paid off so beautifully. Looking forward to seeing it in person! xo

    • Smallpeace says:

Thanks, David. We discovered a lot about ourselves in the process. And the final result is such a wonderful expression of our combined vision. (And if B says he didn’t have a say in any of it, he’s lying 😉

  9. Lori says:

You must be THRILLED! It looks just beautiful. Now: when are we cooking dinner there?

    xxoo Lori

  10. Christopher says:

That’s extraordinary; so light, so sunny, so airy. Congratulations!

  11. Smallpeace says:

Thank you for that, Chris. I do hope you will come and see it soon.

  12. Sydney Shipps says:

Magazine spread ready!!!! It is BEAUTIFUL!

  13. Melissa says:

Beautiful! The natural light pouring in makes such a huge difference! Congrats!
